Snowmaking Upgrades at Stowe

This year Stowe Mountain Resort continues to invest in its state-of-the-art snowmaking operations with an additional 4.7 million dollars in new equipment and upgrades that include - 325 HKD tower guns, 150 energy efficient land guns, 16 Super Pole Cat fan guns and seven miles of new snowmaking pipe. In addition to supplementing its already superlative snowmaking, this year’s improvements will allow Stowe to operate with greater energy efficiency and eliminate 100,000 gallons of diesel storage, use and emissions. From a skier’s and rider's standpoint, the new snowmaking increases potential for more early season terrain, increases overall snow quality and allows our mountain operations crew to resurface the mountain quicker.

We tested the system on October 13 at the base area with mild temps around 32 degrees - and it was a complete success.

Check out the video:

We plan to open on November 17!

Remember to buy your Season Pass before October 31 to save big!

Embracing Summer at Stowe Mountain Resort

We sure do love the beautiful powdery-white winters here on Mount Mansfield, and this last one was no different. It was a bit of a challenge, sure, but our Mountain Operations team set us up for some truly phenomenal days on the hill. Today, that same crew is busy prepping and installing a massive off-season investment in snowmaking to ensure next winter is even better than ever. You'll hear much more about that throughout the summer…

In the meantime, this is Stowe, Vermont and we always look forward to beginning a new season here at the resort. The mountain has turned a brilliant, lush green and where our cars were packed with skis and snowboards just a little while ago, now golf bags, kayaks and bikes have taken over for the next few months. Stowe Mountain Golf Club, for members and guests of Stowe Mountain Lodge and the Stowe Country Club, are open, both offering one-of-a-kind Golf experiences. You can also drive to the top of Vermont on the Mount Mansfield Auto Toll Road any day of the week.

Our Summer Mountain Adventure Camp, for kids ages 3-12, runs every Monday through Saturday weekly from June 18th through September 1st. Give the gift of adventure to your kids for 1 day, 5 days or even a full season’s worth of new skills, friends, memories and fun!

As of June 23, all of Stowe Mountain Resort's summer attractions will be open, including the Gondola SkyRide, Alpine Slide, Bungee Trampoline, Climbing Wall, and Inflatable Obstacle Course. We've also got unique restaurants, such as the Cliff House at the top of the Gondola, opening for lunch daily at the same time.

So we've taken a deep breath, switched out our ski boots for hiking boots, and we are ready for another adventure-filled summer season at Stowe Mountain Resort. We're not just patiently awaiting the return of winter. No, we've completely embraced the potential of the season at hand. Have you? What are your plans for the summer?

Meet the Fleet: C. Rob

Name: Chris Robinson aka C. Rob

Position: On hill snowboard supervisor and staff trainer

Time at Stowe: 4 years

C. Rob came to Vermont in 2008, from Jackson Hole. The move was to be closer to family on the east coast and for him it was as simple as moving from the best of the west to the best of the east. He has been snowboarding for 21 years and even tele skiing for ten. While working at Stowe he loves snowboarding and meeting new people every day.

In his spare time in the winter and during the summers C. Rob is the CEO of Faded Orange, a Vermont based company celebrating mountain town culture. They celebrate the freedom of athletic expression, art, music, while sharing the stoke that is a mountain town culture and have T-Shirts, hats and other accessories. Faded Orange sponsors local and professional athletes as well as donates money, time and products to local events and charities. What makes Faded unique is that they are focusing on being as local and made in the USA as possible. The trucker hat logos are made in New York, the embroidery and screen printing are done in Vermont, all the beanies are made in the USA, and the knit hats are all hand knit in the USA from Eco ways yarn.

When C. Rob is not snowboarding or running Faded Orange you might find him with his wife and two kids or fly fishing, golfing, kayaking, mountain biking, rock climbing, skateboarding or even hip hop dancing.

Keep your eyes peeled for C. Rob and Faded Orange around Stowe.

Where is Vermont Exactly?

Vermont, it’s that state up near Canada right? Yup, it sure is! And we LOVE visitors. So how do you find us? Located in a town with NO traffic lights, it is easy to get here!

It's not hard to find Stowe. Since the ski area shares its name with the town, there's no confusion about where you're headed, and the "Ski capital of the East" is an easy, enjoyable trip from just about anywhere.

Located in north-central Vermont, we're 40 minutes from Vermont's largest airport, 15 minutes from Interstate 89, and 15 minutes from the train station. Clear signs, light traffic, well-maintained roads, and pretty countryside make it a pleasant drive from the airport or other northeastern locations..

Traveling by car or bus Guests from the north, south, east, or west can take major interstates or highways almost to Stowe's doorstep. Check Vermont road conditions.

Directions to Stowe Mountain Resort

From Burlington, Vermont
Take Interstate 89 South. Follow 89S until you get to exit 10 (Stowe / Waterbury exit). Make a left at the end of the exit ramp; this is route 100N. Follow this for 11 miles until you reach your first stop sign. This is the center of Stowe Village. Make a left at the stop sign onto route 108N, and follow this for approximately 6 miles until you reach the resort. Welcome!

From Boston
From Providence, RI
From Montreal
From Albany
From New York City, Philadelphia, or Washington D.C.
Traveling by train Whether you're coming from Washington, DC or NYC or just about anywhere, you can take Amtrak to the Waterbury station. The rates are outstanding! For more information on Amtrak, check out www.amtrak.com.

Travel Agent Reservations For discounted, commissionable fares on US Airways, Thrifty Rental Cars and Amtrak, call 1-800-24-STOWE

Group Travel Reservations The following are the group sales and travel agent numbers for: Amtrak - 1-800-872-1477 US Airway - 1-877-US GROUPS (877-874-7687)

Traveling by plane
Vermonters are used to dealing with snow, so our major airport has an outstanding open ratio of over 99:1 in the winter. Burlington International Airport offers plenty of flights nonstop from major cities like Philadelphia, Chicago, Pittsburgh, New York, Boston, and Washington. Major carriers at Burlington International Airport include Continental Airlines, The Delta Connection, United Airlines, and US Airways.

From the airport, it's just a 40-minute, mostly Interstate drive to Stowe. Taxi service and car rentals are available at the airport (we offer preferred rates on Thrifty rental cars with ski racks, all-weather tires, and unlimited mileage), and some lodges provide special transportation for groups.

And if you get lost just look at any of the beautiful scenery around and BREATHE you are in Vermont and it will all be ok!
